PARTICIPANT GUIDELINES

Each team is allowed up to 2 people per team, all team members must be 21 years of age or older with a valid ID. In addition to event admission for team members, you will receive up to 2 complimentary tickets for your guests. Prior to the event, you will receive a souvenir apron.  You should anticipate preparing sufficient samples for at least 200 guests. Accordingly, as you consider what food to prepare, please keep in mind that those dishes that can be easily divided into single servings are the most appropriate. The majority of your cooking should be done in advance of the event and your food should arrive in disposable aluminum pans, crock pots, coolers, food warmers etc. Tables, linens, plates, cutlery, chafing fuel will be provided, however, if you require any special supplies or access to electricity, please indicate your needs on your entry form.

As indicated below, the competition involves four (4) food categories: Appetizers, Sides, Entrée/Meats and Desserts. If you’re not sure which category your dish falls into, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the contacts listed below. Although, this event is a friendly competition, more than mere bragging rights are on the line. You will be battling other amateur chefs for valuable gift cards provided by the event’s vendors and sponsors. RULES

All entries must be submitted no later than August 7, 2017 and approved by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Omicron Zeta Lambda Chapter (the Fraternity”) and the Rodney Momon Scholarship Fund, Inc. (the “Fund”). Participants must not be professional chefs, culinary instructors or present a conflict of interest with respect to any contest judges, event vendors or sponsors. Your approved entry entitles you to a 4×3 table space (larger areas and/or special accommodations may be allowed upon pre-approval). You may begin setting up 2 hours prior to the event and you are expected to have at least one team member staff your table space for a minimum of 2 hours during the event.
Please keep in mind that there will be no smoking at this event and you must ensure that all of your interactions with event guests, vendors and sponsors are courteous and respectful. Each Participant must know and practice safe food handling procedures including but not limited to those procedures required by the Arkansas Department of Health Temporary Food Service Guidelines found here:

Your dish will be judged by of a panel of three (3) or more judges selected by the Fraternity and the Fund based on taste (20 possible points), presentation (5 possible points), and originality/creativity (10 possible points). Each food category will have one (1) overall winner determined by the highest combined judges’ score. All judging decisions are final. Any questions or requests for clarification of these rules should be submitted at least two (2) weeks in advance of the event date.

FRATERNITY RIGHTS THE FRATERNITY AND THE FUND RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE ADDITIONAL RULES AS THE SITUATION WARRANTS. ALL DECISIONS OF THE FRATERNITY, FUND, AND JUDGES ARE FINAL. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION, EXPULSION FROM THE GROUNDS AND/OR DISQUALIFICATION FROM FUTURE PARTICIPATION. GENERAL RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY

By submitting your registration you hereby acknowledge your voluntarily participation in the Real Men Wear Aprons event and assume full responsibility for all liability and all risk of injury or loss, including death, which may result from my participating in this event. You agree to hold harmless, release, waive, and forever discharge any claim against the Fraternity, the Fund or its representatives arising out of your voluntary participation in this event. This General Release and Waiver of Liability of all claims is binding on my heirs, executors, administrators and, family members and any and all persons pursuing a claim on your behalf, on behalf of your estate or against you or your estate.
